Dear Shay,

Last Thursday night I had a strange dream. I dreamed that I was standing in the doorway of the church I attend. I could see a short way down the aisle and I think I was wearing my choir gown. There were only a few people in the church, it was strangely quiet there. I'm not really sure why. I couldn't see the front of the church clearly, but there was no cross there. I think it was another symbol...

This dream only lasted a couple minutes, but it was so real. Are these dreams common? I have had two other vivid dreams and four years of vivid nightmares. Is this natural? Is it a gift? Do you know how to interpret dreams? Do you know any dream symbolism? Am I losing my mind?

No, you’re not losing your mind at all. Dreams such as the ones you’re speaking of are very common. I hear, all the time, from people who experience the same kind of thing.

I interpret dreams on occasion, but in your case, there is not much to interpret. From what it sounds like, you’re seeing your faith in a different way than usual. The fact that you didn’t see the cross, but something else, means your perception of your faith has changed a little. This is not always a bad thing, in fact it can be very good. It can mean that your soul is growing and you are just in a period of readjustment. It does not mean that you’ve fallen away from God or anything, it just means that as you’ve matured as a soul, the way you interpret your relationship with Him has moved to a different level.

Don’t let a dream like this freak you out. There’s no reason to worry. Heck, two years ago I had a nightmare in which demons were whispering to me that I was going to die. My answer to that? It doesn’t matter when I die…I’ll leave this world Loving Jesus! No demon can touch that. And that’s the attitude you need to take with your nightmares as well. Turn them over to Jesus! That’s all that’s necessary!
