Letter 37

Dear Shay,

I am writing you from India. I am badly in need of your help as I am facing a big problem in my life. I have been in love with a girl for the last year. She loves me as I love her, probably more. We both wanted to get married. So we approached our parents with the proposal. My father asked me whether I really love her and whether my intentions about her are pure or not. I told him very clearly that I am very clear about my decision and that it comes from my heart. He gave his acceptance but unfortunately her father refused, not because he didn’t like me but because I don't belong to her cast. We both were really shocked to find that reason to coming in way of our happiness. Do castes matter with Pure Love? Had GOD made any difference while creating the human? What I believe is that GOD had only created human being and the rest of all these casts and customs are all made by humans. We both are trying our best to convince her father. He is not at all worried about his daughter’s happiness and wants her to marry someone else immediately. We both are so upset that we are thinking of committing suicide soon.

Kindly advise me and tell me how can I make God understand about my pure Love. I request that you also pray for me in the best way you can. I shall be very thankful to you and will surely visit you personally if my sincere wish gets fulfilled.

Please, please help me. I beg of you.

The old saying goes, "Love Conquers All". This is too true in your case. You have seemingly insurmountable obstacles keeping your love from culminating in marriage, but what will save your situation is what created it, your Love.

I'm reminded of a previous letter from a few months ago, you might want to read it, Letter # 6: Interracial Teen Relationship. What that letter explains, is that as people get older, their values solidify. Your fiance's father is not going to change. He's been believing in the caste system his whole life. There is nothing you're going to be able to say or do that will convince him that a belief he's been believing his whole life is wrong. So, the course of action that will save you?

Grasp God's logic. When the Lord puts a problem in front of you, he wants you to figure out a resolution for it, he doesn't want you to run from it. Solving your problem may well indeed include travelling though. If you cannot experience a relationship with this girl in the country or area that you are living, relocating could very well become a reality and should be seriously considered. There's a message I want to pass on to you.

A friend of mine killed himself a couple of years ago. He overdosed on sleeping pills. I've spoken with him since his death, and the message I always get is that he's in servitude. He also does not seem happy. He's able to do things, he has a certain kind of freedom, but his life after death is definitely not any more enjoyable than his life on Earth was. I attribute this to the way he died. Suicide damages and limits the spirit's ability to continue its ascension toward complete and total happiness. Essentially, if you were to commit suicide, you would be delaying your arrival in heaven. There are lots of types of existence after this one, and they're not all equal, so why shortchange yourself? This problem is solvable, as they all are.

An impossible situation does not exist before the eyes of God and the reason you wrote me was so you could hear that for yourself.

I'll be sending help. You will be getting some important advice from a little girl, probably a relative. It will seem as if what she said came from angels themselves. I will also be sending you David. David is the friend of mine who killed himself. He's short, olive-skinned, with black hair. He will show and explain why suicide is not the answer.
